Pet care is fragmented and mostly offline. Finding a vet open on a Friday, or boarding with space next week, usually means calling four places. Meanwhile the businesses themselves lose bookings to whoever answered the phone first.

ANIMALS GARDEN puts the search and the booking in one place, with the listings maintained by the businesses rather than scraped and left to rot.

What building it taught us

A directory is only as good as the reason a business has to keep its own listing current. Build the value for the listed business first — bookings, a page worth linking to, control over their own details — and the data maintains itself. Build it for the visitor only, and the data is stale within a season.

Booking is where the real engineering is. Two people picking the same slot, cancellations, a shop that closes early on a public holiday, and the fact that most of these businesses run their day on WhatsApp rather than a dashboard. A booking system that ignores how the business actually operates gets abandoned no matter how good the interface is.

Trust is the third piece. Reviews are worth having only if they are real, and a directory that inflates them destroys the thing it is selling.
