A lamp that is too tall glares in your eyes, and one that is too short leaves you reading in the shadow. A few simple measurements solve both.
On a side table, the bottom of the shade should sit at about eye level when you are seated, usually 100 to 110 cm from the floor.
On a bedside table, aim for the shade to be around 50 cm above the mattress, so light falls on your book and not on your partner.
Choose warm white bulbs around 2700 K for living rooms and bedrooms; they make evenings feel softer and calmer.
